Bioinformatics Program Resources
The Bioinformatics Program occupies about 5000 sq. ft. of modern office space, equipped especially for bioinformatics: Each staff member is provided an oversized computer workstation environment, ergonomically tailored computer workstations, and high-speed network connectivity.
Housed in the MCW data center are thirteen racks of servers configured for Bioinformatics tools. In addition to dozens of servers dedicated to specific purposes (such as application servers, web servers and databases), we also have a general-purpose computational cluster of sixteen dual-processor Itanium-2 based servers for large complex computational tasks. Our primary server vendors are Sun Microsystems and Hewlett-Packard, and our operations environment is a mix of both Sun Solaris and RedHat Enterprise Linux. Application and operations management is all done with internal staff, to provide rapid response to the demanding needs of our research community.
The Bioinformatics Program maintains a library of bioinformatics references in database methodology, object-oriented application development, JAVA, PERL, C/C++ programming languages and on various system administration methods, WEB architecture, design and development techniques. The Bioinformatics Program subscribes to many of the journals related to web application development.
Methodologies include: Information Gathering; Strategizing; Prototyping; Implementation; Launch; Maintenance & Growth.
